Ladies Trade Zumba for Weight Training for better Results

Zumba is one of the hottest fitness fads around, but those of you who are toiling away at your local class three times a week hoping to have that enviable killer body this summer, you’re wasting your time.

That isn’t to say Zumba does not have many benefits, it is a very fun, enjoyable, social experience and you will sweat a lot, but it is not the most efficient, effective way to firm up for summer.

For decades, women have been under the impression that weightlifting and strength training were solely for men and, if they took part in these exercises, they would gain weight and become bulky, muscle-bound freaks

So rather than picking up a dumbbell, barbell or kettlebell, ladies have been taking classes like Zumba and Spin or just running like a hamster on the treadmill for hours at a time. I’m here to explain why you need to start weight training to gain the edge when sculpting that sleek, slender bikini body this summer.

By implementing just three total-body strength workouts each week, you will improve your fat loss, athletic performance, strength and lean muscle mass.  In addition to those visible improvements, strength training will lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and injury as well as increase your metabolism.sexy body

For the best results, you will want to design a workout plan that implements compound movements.  Compound movements such as squats, deadlifts will help you rapidly burn fat and increase lean muscle mass as opposed to isolation lifts that focus on building one specific muscle group at a time.

As always, there is a right and a wrong way to train, and going into your local gym and picking up a weight will not magically give you a killer body.

To reach your maximum potential, you will want to always challenge yourself, pick a weight that will push you to your limits, something that will make you break a sweat and really make you feel like you accomplished something when you finish your set, or workout.

Whatever plan you pick, remember to stick to it and incorporated compound movements during strength training sessions at least twice a week to achieve optimal results.  Weights aren’t just for Arnold Schwarzenegger anymore.
